The project seeks to promote the Matley Lane site as a sustainable location for new residential development. The site provides an opportunity to extend the existing residential community – to develop 76 homes along with significant public open space and new green infrastructure. An appropriate ecologically-driven planting approach will help to deliver a robust structure to the site, creating a soft transition into town within the urban fringe area. The site layout will help capture the expansive views out towards the Pennines and create a distinctive place to live.

Undertake a preliminary Landscape and Visual Appraisal to form a chapter within the Vision Document Draw up an illustrative masterplan for the site outlining the broad distribution of development, anticipated access and site circulation, and landscape strategy. Produce a Vision Document for the site. This included a broad (high level) baseline assessment of the site and its immediate surrounds, a constraints and opportunities plan and a development framework plan.
“The site visit for this project was a challenge in the pooring rain but nevertheless was an exciting moment! One could clearly see the potential the site had: to deliver a new residential community, the preservation of important local landscape features such as the adjacent ancient woodland and associated recreational potential.”
