Detailed Hardscape, Streetscape and Planting Design

We provide a full landscape architectural design service from concept design through to detailed design and beyond to post completion landscape management plans, (RIBA work stages 1 to 7). We work for domestic clients through to commercial clients, and are regularly novated to the main contractor as part of design and build projects. Our works include General Arrangement plans, hard and soft landscape plans, setting out and construction detailing, levels information, boundary, structure and street furniture specification and of course planting design. We have a proven track record of project delivery including the production and administration of tender packages and site supervision, and we routinely work with architects, civil and structural engineers, quantity surveyors and contractors to ensure that our proposals are fully coordinated and integrated.

Garden Design, Meanwhile Spaces, Landscape Installations

Gardens are incredibly personal spaces. They provide outdoor rooms that extend the home and connect people with each other and their environment. Urban Wilderness offer a personal, well-honed design service, which helps people realise the potential of their garden spaces. We place great emphasis on planting form, biodiversity, year round colour and budget. We assist our clients with the delivery of their vision, handling the tendering of contracts, contractor appointment and liaison, on-site design advice, management of cost variations and valuations for payment and quality sign-off. We have recently completed gardens designs for clients in Notting Hill, Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, Newmillerdam in Wakefield and in the Duchy, Harrogate. Meanwhile Spaces and landscape installations are an extension of our garden design service, extending our design ethos into community spaces, landscape installations and show gardens. Our Installations seek to connect people with each other and their environment. Recent installations include the ‘Dormouse Garden’ for the Wild Worlds Festival at Chester Zoo and an installation, entitled ‘St Helen’s Moorish Stitch’ which was entered into the York Bloom! Festival on behalf of Mcarthurglen.

Play Space Design

These forms of play are often the most enduring, robust and cost-effective ways of providing play, factors that are ever more important due to the relative paucity of funding for play spaces, set against increasing demand for high quality play environments. We offer a full playground design package to our clients with a set of standard services from feasibility, concept and detail design through to tendering and site supervision.

Urban Design and Public-Realm Design

We provide in-house urban design expertise, from the design and implementation of the public realm, urban massing studies, townscape assessment and the strategic masterplanning of new urban environments. Our designs embrace the principles of safe-by-design and we promote connectivity and accessibility for all. At the heart of our design we seek to promote the benefits of 'urban greening' in order to ensure that the urban environment delivers attractive and engaging places within which people want to live, work and play. “Urban design is the process of shaping the physical setting for life in cities, towns and villages. It is the art of making places. It involves the design of buildings, groups of buildings, spaces and landscapes, and establishing the processes that make successful development possible..” (The Urban Design Group)

“Over 3 years we’ve challenged the team at Urban Wilderness to help us create a culture of great landscaping at our University. Through a combination of insightful strategic work, creative design and close attention to our needs as a client, we are now starting to realise the benefits that considered landscaping schemes can bring to our University. Our campus is getting greener all the time, and our students, staff and local community are very happy with the changes we’ve made. Urban Wilderness have been an excellent guide on that journey so far.” Chris Pryke-Hendy - Nottingham Trent University.
