Railway Reclamation Park

Barnburgh

A full planning application for a landscape-led scheme within a section of the former Dearne Valley Railway cutting. The landowner has an obligation to undertake essential engineering works to a road bridge crossing the rail cutting. This has prompted a change to local access, landform and vegetation cover. The local landowner proposes to under-fill the bridge and restore the cutting to original levels through the import and placement of recycled materials. Proposals include a series of landscape enhancements which will provide a high quality recreational amenity for local residents and an improved footpath connection between the conurbations of Goldthorpe and Barnburgh. The proposals will include surfaced footpaths, controlled access, wildlife habitat enhancements, seating, structure planting, wildflower meadow and public art.

Look who's involved

“Following reclamation this site will give a formerly inaccessible part of the local landscape back to the Local Authorities of Barnsley and Doncaster and provide new recreational amenity for the burgeoning local communities adjacent such as Barnburgh and Goldsborough.”
