Applegarth Farm

Grayshott, East Hampshire

From its humble beginnings as a small farm shop and restaurant, Urban Wilderness worked with Big Apple Ventures to develop proposals to diversify the site into a visitor destination and luxury glamping retreat.

Proposals include the conversion of existing buildings for an indoor children’s play centre, the creation of flexible starter units for small to medium rural enterprises, an enlarged restaurant and farm shop, a new cookery school along with kitchen garden, outdoor play provision and sensitive siting of luxury glamping pods. Working with a multi-disciplinary team, Urban Wilderness acted on behalf of the client to project manage the proposals, public consultation and planning application.

The landscape design provides a stimulating, educational and productive environment designed for people to meet, learn and discover. The scheme has been designed as part of a wider ‘plant to plate’ concept, exploring people’s relationship with food, the importance of sustainable growing, and the strong relationship between food quality, human health and sustainable production methods. The creation of new wildlife habitat, appropriate to the needs of locally-occurring native flora and fauna species, ensures that the development fits comfortably within its landscape context, enhancing character and diversity.
